So yeah. Today I spent my day, as I do most days...at work. Since I'm currently in training for the new position I've been hired for (direct handling in the claims department means I take loss reports and settle simple, 2 car/no injury claims.) That means lots of studying all day, worksheets and then occasionally a test. No homework, because that would be over time. We're not allowed to take stuff home to study.

Today was our midterm for a 6 week course - I passed, thanks for asking.

Rather than, say...letting us leave immediately afterwards, we were rewarded to blow off the rest of the day by first going to a 'celebration' award ceromony for people who had good numbers. "A" level service, policies sold, $$ recovered (fraud), claims closed...that sort of thing. Which means I got a 15 min lunch rather than my usual hour one, and got to applaud for an hour straight. I've never gotten to be one of the chosen who got a cheesy certificate at one of these, despite the fact that I've gotten numbers that should qualify me, because "billing doesn't do that." I've since been told my supervisor & managers were just lazy and didn't want to go to the effort of submitting any names. No, I'm not bitter.

Then, a tour of the building, for those in my class who haven't already worked there 2 years. I did see some places I'd not had the reason to go to, but...not that exciting. Wasted time, is all.

Last, we "got" to see some photos. Of REALLY bad car accidents. You know the stuff they show you in defensive driving to try to make you scared to drink and drive? Much worse. A corvette that you can barely tell it's a car anymore, much less the make - just ashes and not even most of the frame. Dead people. A woman who I really hope died on impact. Her head was through the steering column, into the dash. Her hand was clutching the side of the door, so it looked like she had tried to get out... People thrown from the car..and a motorcycle that they hit. A kid, maybe 14 - of his school picture, then him lying on the side of the road afterwards, and then again at his funeral. I'm not sure, but I think it was supposed to be a reward for everyone passing the exam.

Say I'm dead. Killed in an accident. I don't want some group of people I don't even know, who have nothing to do with settling the claim to help my folks, looking at the accident and my broken and bloody corpse because its entertaining. I mean...how disrepectful can you get? People cracking jokes about it... >_< One girl in my class took a look at the photos they were passing around and said "Oh my god. I can't do this." She just sat there, on the other side of the room, until we were allowed to leave. But this is the job I want to do...because they closed the department I used to work in. At least they pay me. What use is money, anyway?

By all the powers...I'm such a heartless bastard. I'm off to go play video games.
